Do you skip meals to lose weight?

If you skip meals to lose weight you will begin a yo yo lifestyle of dieting. As soon as you go back to normal eating, you will gain your weight back. The body begins to believe you are fasting or starving it, so every time you eat, it will store fat for the starvation period it perceives is coming.

When you eat small meals every 3 hours, your body will begin to depend on it. Your body will then speed up the metabolism, rather than slowing it down. Your food will digest better when you eat small meals. Your meals should not exceed 400 calories. That is approximately three meals of: 3 oz of meat, 1 serving of a complex carbohydrate (potato, rice, or a orange or yellow vegetable) and 2 servings of green vegetable).

Fruit is better eaten as a snack by itself, so it doesn't create gas. The mid morning meal and the afternoon meal should consist of fruit or nuts or yogurt, or a protein bar, and should not exceed 200-250 calories. Try to have at least one apple a day.

Skipping meals and saving your calories for going out to eat will build more fat. Anytime you eat 1000 calories in one sitting, you are guaranteed to increase your fat around your waist. That is where the body stores the fat.

So, if you lack energy and vitality, start journaling your food intake. You will be amazed how many morsels go into your body when you begin to "take notice."

I heard recently that some diet groups make you pay a quarter whenever you snack between meals. That is appropriate "only" if you snack BEFORE the 3 hour period since you last ate. Eating every 3 hours is not "snacking" because it is part of your 5 meals a day. If you eat 5 meals a day you can have 1600 calories a day and still lose weight.
